On Island Time: An Introductory Outback Glossary
Welcome to the The Outback Bowl, a very serious game for very serious people. In this game, it's not just about who scores the most points - it's about avoiding last place while talking the maximum amount of trash possible. As a fan of the game, there are a few terms you should know to spice up your Outback conversations.
Island: An "island" pick is where you pick a different game result than the other three Outbackers. To the layman, this would suggest that you have made a bad pick; however, island win rates are higher than one would think.
Just Pick The Winners: A tongue-in-cheek reference to a strategy of picking the winner of a game based on gut feelings about each team. This term is used sarcastically to mock other Outbackers who rely on sophisticated models to make their picks. After all, the game is simple—just pick the winning team.
Loser's Dinner: The redemption dinner where the four Outbackers unite at The Outback Steakhouse to be treated by the loser to an all-you-can-consume bonanza.
Math Alliance: Loosely refers to Grey and Randy's tendency to use analytics and statistical modeling when making their picks. This contrasts Bryant and Tom's more gut-based methods. Grey is notoriously tight-lipped about his selection method, leading some to question how much math actually goes on.
Outback Weekend: Beginning in 2023, the Outbackers decided to host a reunion every year in a different city. In this reunion, the Outbackers would hold the Loser's Dinner, attend an NFL game, and hold intellectual discussion about the merits of chain-restaurant oriented traditions.

The most handsome of the Outbackers, Bryant largely employs a strategy of favoring the home team. Bryant's seasons are historically "feast or famine," as he is the only player with multiple first place and multiple last place finishes.
